Portsalon Golf Club Centenary 1891-1991

Categories: ,

Description

Portsalon Golf Club was founded in 1891 and was, in the same year, one of the founding members of The Golfing Union of Ireland which evolved into Golf Ireland in 2020 when it merged with the Ladies golfing union. One of the more difficult centenaries to source its history, despite the remoteness and inaccessibility of the links, is an important piece of the tapestry for early golf in Ireland. May Hezlet is closely linked to the golf course having secured the Irish Ladies Close Championship in 1905 and includes an insightful interview from 1969 with the legendary golfer.
