A Souvenir Programme to commemorate the 124th Amateur Championship being played at the Portmarnock and Island Golf Clubs. The programme also marked the 70th Anniversary of the playing the 1949 Amateur Championship at Portmarnock Golf Club which also celebrated the 125th anniversary of its formation when William Pickeman and George Ross took a rowing boat across the estuary. The programme details the history of the championship from an Irish perspective as well as an account of the 1949 Championship which brought some legendary US golfers to our shores including Francis Ouimet and Charles E. “Chick” Evans. The programme was edited by Brendan G. Cashell a noted historian and past captain of the Portmarnock Golf Club.
