Ardee Golf Club 1911 – 2011 Celebrating 100 Years of Golf

Ardee Golf Club, originally known as South Louth Golf Club, was founded in 1911. Initially a 9-hole course, it expanded to 18 holes in 1985 with the addition of a second 9 holes.

The course has evolved over the years and was at Baltrasna for only a few years when it moved to the Ruxton Demesne where Lionel Hewson lay out the course and then moved to Townparks, which was originally owned by the Ruxton family, in September 1919.

The club is still situated in Townparks, Ardee, Co. Louth, and has been a member-owned club since its inception. The club purchased much of the land it sits on in 1965 and continued to develop and improve its facilities over the years with a new clubhouse and increased membership and pressure on timesheets necessitated the need for eighteen holes. Following further lands acquisitions the new Eddie Hackett designed golf course had its official opening on 21 August 1985.

In the mid-nineties Declan Branigan plans for five new holes with sand-based greens on newly purchased land and Branigan’s plans were accepted together with additional contributions from Eddie Hackett and, while not without controversy, the new course open for play on 1 June 1997. The course hosted the Irish Assistants’ Championship in 2023 and the Irish Boys Amateur Open in 2011.
