Athy Golf Club Celebrating our Centenary 1906 – 2006

Athy Golf Club, nestled in the heart of County Kildare, Ireland, traces its roots back to 1906. The original course was at Geraldine after a more suitable site was excluded by virtue of a strict no golf on the sabbath provision. The nine-hole course was designed by Richard Larkin of Bray together with James Barrett of the Hermitage who did the bunkering.

It wasn’t until 1993 that it expanded to its current 18-hole layout after a rate of €165 per acre was agreed with the existing landlord for additional landed needed. Tenders were sought from Smyth & Branigan, Eagle Golf Landscape and Design and Teagasc who were awarded the main contract in the end and were to work with Pat Tuttle of Golf Course Consultancy Services as architects
