The club was initially established with a nine-hole course, which opened on 13 June 1903. A second nine-holes was added the following year. In 1933, the club moved to its current location on Broadway, where a new 18-hole course was designed by the legendary golfer and course architect James Braid for whom the sixth-hole (“Braid Hills”) is named after. The new course was officially opened in 1935 by Lady Craigavon.
Over the years, the club has undergone several property deals, including the purchase of additional land in 1933 to expand the course. In the late 1960s, some land was lost to a new ring road, requiring redesigns by Frank Pennink.
Notable members include: Garth McGimpsey MBE, who captained the GB & Ireland Walker Cup team and won the Amateur Championship in 1985; Norman Drew, David Feherty, son of a past captain Billy Feherty and the club professional between 1999 to 2012, Michael Bannon.
The club has hosted a number of professional tournaments including the Irish PGA Championship and the Jeyes Tournament together with the Irish Boys Open Amateur Championship in 2009, won by Paul Dunne.
