Dunmurry Centenary 1905-2005

Dunmurry Golf Club was founded in 1905.The club was established by a group of leading industrialists and businessmen who saw the potential for a golf course in Dunmurry. The original 9-hole course was designed by G.S. Dunn of Newcastle, County Down and opened on May 15, 1905. The club initially leased 38 acres of land from Sir Robert Anderson for 20 years. In 1925, the members decided to purchase additional land, expanding the course to over 6,000 yards. The club has continued to evolve, with various property deals to enhance the course and facilities. Over the years, the course expanded to 18 holes, with significant developments in 1973 and 1977. The course was later extended to 18 holes by Tom McAuley in 1977. The club has a rich history, including surviving World War II and adapting to post-war challenges.

The club has produced several notable golfers, including Max McCready, who won the British Amateur Championship in 1949, and Darren Crowe, who has represented Ireland on multiple occasions. Dame Mary Peters, an Olympic gold medalist and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, is also an honorary member.
