Tramore Golf Club 1894-1994

Tramore Golf Club was founded in 1894 and started as a 9-hole links course exposed to extreme weather conditions. Over the years, it relocated twice due to storm damage, finally settling at Newtown Hill in 1939. The club has since expanded to 27 holes, including a championship layout. The course was originally designed by H.C.C. Tippet and later modified by Commander John Harris. In 2006, Jeff Howes Golf Design was engaged to remodel the existing course and added nine new holes.

The club has undergone significant redevelopment, including the purchase of adjacent land for a new clubhouse and practice range in 1970. The latest expansion in 2006 added nine new holes and upgraded the existing course. The course stretches across 6,700 yards with sand-based greens constructed to USGA standards.

Tramore Golf Club has hosted various championships, including the Irish Close Championships for both men and women on three occasions, the Irish Seniors Amateur Open Championship and the Irish Dunlop Tournament in 1967. Notable players have included Joseph C. Brown, Eddie Power, Pat O’Sullivan, Jack Hearn and Anna Dawson.
